Burglary Prevention

Each year in the U.S. there are more than 5 million home burglaries. However, 9 out of 10 of these crimes are preventable. The risk of being burglarized can be greatly reduced by taking simple steps to make your home more difficult to enter and less enticing to would-be burglars.

The 3 greatest weapons to prevent burglaries are:

1. Light

2. Time

3. Noise

Light

Make sure that exterior lights are mounted out of reach so that burglars can’t easily unscrew bulbs.

Consider buying motion-sensitive lights, which are now available at relatively low prices.

Use a variable light timer to activate lights inside your home.

Trim trees and shrubs near doors and windows so burglars can’t hide in the shadows

Time

Make it time-consuming for a burglar to break into your home by :

Installing deadbolt locks on all exterior doors. Add a Door Brace too. CLICK HERE.

Installing double key locks in doors which contain glass. This will keep a burglar from being able to open the door simply by breaking the glass and reaching through. (note: so that everyone in the house can get out in the event of a fire, be sure to keep the key in designated place NEAR the door but NOT in the lock).

Placing additional locks on all windows and patio doors.

Noise

Get a dog. You don’t need a large attack dog; even a small dog creates a disturbance that burglars would prefer to avoid. Remember to License and Vaccinate it. Want just the BARK and not the feeding? CLICK HERE.

Consider having someone care for your dogs in your home while you’re away, instead of boarding them.

If you can afford it, install an alarm system that will alert neighbors or alarm company of a burglar’s presence. Most systems can even summon local police directly. Don’t forget to check the Alarm Code.

Other tips to prevent break-ins:

Think like a burglar. “Case” your home the way a burglar would and look for easy ways to enter your home.

Be sure valuables such as guns, electronic devices and artwork are not visible from the street.

Be sure to lock up ladders and tools which could be used to break into your home.

Work together with your neighbors. Organize a Neighborhood Watch and let your neighbors know when you will be away for an extended period.

While on vacation, have someone pick up your newspapers and mail, so that they do not accumulate and alert burglars of your absence.

Display your house number conspicuously and have it well illuminated. This will help police and emergency personnel find your home quickly.

Just in Case…

Sometimes, all your efforts won’t stop a determined burglar. It’s wise to take some precautions that will help you get your property back should a criminal successfully break into your home:

Make a list of your belongings (be sure to keep receipts, especially for expensive items like stereos and computers). Be sure to update this list periodically.

Keep copies of your inventory list and receipts in a safe deposit box or with a friend. (This is also important in the event of a house fire.)

Photographing and/or videotaping your possessions is a convenient way to keep a record of what you own.

Engrave your valuables with an identification or mark to deter burglary and to prove ownership should the article be stolen and recovered by the police.

Be sure you have the right coverage. You may need to purchase additional coverage to protect special items like expensive jewelry or rare antiques.

If you don’t own your home, seriously consider buying a renter’s policy. Your landlord will generally not be responsible for your possessions. Rental coverage is available at competitive rates and these policies also offer important protection against liability and losses due to fire or storm damage.

ORDER Stun Guns, Tasers, Pepper Sprays, Steel Batons, Personal Alarms. www.StunGunsAndStuff.com

Prevention – think ahead, avoid risky situations & environments when possible, have a plan

Awareness – first line of defense, notice exits & escape routes, watch behaviors, make note of descriptions, be alert

Escape – always the best option and should be your primary goal; YOU must create your opportunity – pain, diversion

Right to Fight – you can and should defend yourself against physical attack, your response must match level of threat

Weapons – choose weapons that you are comfortable using & know how to use it before you need it; practice, practice, practice. Whether it is a stun gun, taser, gun, or pepper spray…PRACTICE!!!

Home Invasions & Burglaries – on the rise, be proactive, make your safe & secure

Car Safety – lock door immediately! Be on alert when getting in/out, when stopped at intersections, and at gas stations. These are prime carjacking opportunities

GPS Devices – enter a nearby business location instead of home address, remove GPS device & all evidence of it from the car.

Hotel Room – use the latch lock and an additional door safety device (bar, wedge, alarm, etc). Knock before entering, inspect before unpacking

Internet Safety – change password often, difficult , (8+ characters), use secure websites when providing personal info, update anti-virus & firewall software frequently

Identity Theft – shred documents, check account activity often, order/review FREE credit report every 3-4 months from different credit bureau, report unfamiliar/fraud activity immediately

Rape – of women who fought back less than 9% were injured, one self-defense technique makes difference, 50% in victim’s home, 80% by ‘friend’, women (16-24) 4x more likely to be raped, 90% not reported

Crime – targeted victims are vulnerable, easy, inattentive. Most violent crime and household burglary happen during the day, car theft after midnight, rape anytime

Criminals – usually looking for quick, easy, low risk opportunity; most do not have weapons; most stop the attack when intended victim fights back; not expecting resistance from women

It is important to be on guard all the time and to actively manage your personal safety and your belongings. Being targeted for a crime not only upsets your mental and emotional state but also your financial state. Medical costs. Higher insurance rates. Replacement costs. Time off from work. And the list goes on. It’s worth it to spend some time and a few dollars to minimize your risk and maximize your safety on the front end.

I will admit that I get scared too easily. It was understandable when I was little but it has left [...]

I will admit that I get scared too easily. It was understandable when I was little but it has left me riddled since then. I am 25 years old this year and can no longer expect to still be protected by my mom just like I used to be.

Being told that one of my colleagues was roughed up in front of our workplace did not help appease my anxieties. He is a towering 6’5″ and a hulking 250 pounds and three delinquents rendered him powerless. What were the odds that I, all of 5’4″ and 165 pounds, would be spared?

That was where a search for Mace pepper sprays on the Web came in. When all I could do was get nervous, a defense spray could surely pep me up.

I first bought the Mace Pepper Foam – Magnum model. It contains 10% pepper, foam and UV dye. Once fired, the foam will cover the assailant’s face, making it difficult to see. When the attacker attempts to wipe the foam away, the pain becomes severe because the pepper will penetrate the face and the eyes all the more. This mini pepper spray contains 8 one-second bursts that can reach 8 to 10 feet.

The first order paved the way for me buying other Mace pepper sprays. Later on, I got the Mace Pepper Gel – Magnum model. I think of it as the suspended gel version of the usual liquid stream. The strong pepper spray boasts an extended range of 18 feet while comprising a heftier 13 one-second bursts.

You could say that owning a defense spray changed me. It made my job easier since I no longer feel intimidated by others. This is just as well because, every time I defend myself on my own, I end up on the losing end.

After being motivated to keep trying Mace pepper sprays, I came across the Mace Pepper Gun. It utilizes a modern delivery system based on Bag-in-a-Can technology, which gets the pepper gun to operate as an aerosol would. I can fire it from any angle, like upside down if I have to. This potent pepper spray has a working distance of 25 feet and can empty 7 25-foot blasts onto the goons.

Very effective in disabling wrongdoers despite being non-lethal gadgets, pepper sprays are most valuable when in contact with the eyes. After my Mace pepper sprays gave me some badly needed reassurance, I can finally go through life feeling less afraid of heaven-knows-what.

DivaDefender is a big proponent in being safe rather than being sorry. She provides a great selection of self defense Items to keep you safe from crime. Items include personal alarms, pepper sprays, stun guns, Mace and Tasers.

STUN GUNS – vs – TASERS | Understand the Difference

Click here for Stun Gun & Taser Laws

The major difference between these two non-lethal self-defense weapons is proximity to your target. A stun gun requires that the target is touched. A taser is a dual-function weapon: 1) it allows the target to be ‘tased’ up to 15 feet away, 2) it also has a stun gun feature that requires the target to be touched. “Taser” is a brand of electronic weapons. “Stun Guns” is a generic name and they are sold under many different brand names.

As we further explain the differences, here are few points of reference that may help you put the power of these 2 devices in context:

Static electricity from a carpet generates about 40,000 volts of electricity

Household electrical outlets are generally 15 amps and 120 volts. It’s the amps that’ll electrocute you.

Both stun guns and taser guns are extremely effective self defense weapons. Most people do not really know much about either which leads to many myths surrounding their overall effectiveness and use.

An electrical self-defense device that uses high voltage to stop an attacker. Touching a person with the prongs on the stun gun quickly generates PAIN, shock, muscular contraction, spasms, confusion, disorientation, loss of balance, and immobilization for 5-15 minutes AFTER the shock ends depending on voltage and the attacker’s pain tolerance.

Electrical self defense devices that fire two wired probes 15 feet & allow direct contact stunning. When the wired probes contact the target’s body or clothing, they transmit a 30-second electrical signal that short-circuits the sensory and motor functions of the nervous system. The effects end when 30-second shock ends.

CONSIDER

You must TOUCH your attacker with the stun gun. The ‘shock’ will go thru clothes and will NOT ‘bounce back’ to you. While we would prefer not to have the attacker that close to us, the reality is that we usually won’t know we are being attacked until he/she is that close to us.

In many jurisdictions, the intended victim must be in imminent danger to legally DEFEND him/herself. That “danger zone” is 21 feet. The Taser shoots 15 feet. So you have to be QUICK because most people can cover 21 feet in 1.5 seconds.

Understand the Difference

The major difference between these two non-lethal self-defense weapons is proximity to your target. A stun gun requires that the target is touched. A taser is a dual-function weapon: 1) it allows the target to be ‘tased’ up to 15 feet away, 2) it also has a stun gun feature that requires the target to be touched. “Taser” is a brand of electronic weapons. “Stun Guns” is a generic name and they are sold under many different brand names.

As we further explain the differences, here are few points of reference that may help you put the power of these 2 devices in context:

•	Static electricity from a carpet generates about 40,000 volts of electricity

•	Household electrical outlets are generally 15 amps and 120 volts. It’s the amps that’ll electrocute you.

Both stun guns and taser guns are extremely effective self defense weapons. Most people do not really know much about either which leads to many myths surrounding their overall effectiveness and use.
